Spotlight: 3 More Great Kitchen Cabinet Accessories

We’ve discussed kitchen cabinet accessories a few times before. Because this is such a fantastic way to personalize your home during a kitchen remodeling project, we thought it would be helpful to highlight three more kitchen drawer organizers, all recently added to our Los Gatos remodel.

Knife Storage

Los Gatos Knife StorageAs kitchen cabinet accessories go, this one helps with more than organization: it helps with safety too. An organized knife drawer keeps fingers safe from blades. A kitchen drawer organizer like this one in our Los Gatos kitchen remodeling project does just that. In addition to each knife having a spot, all the handles are on one side and the blades are carefully and easily placed between wooden slits. Have kids? Add a child safety lock and you’re good to go! Fabulous Flooring: Oak Hardwood Floors

Los Gatos KitchenHave you considered your flooring lately? As a prominent part of your overall design, a home remodel is a good time to consider updating various rooms with something like oak hardwood floors. Used throughout our recent Los Gatos remodeling project (as you can see in the picture), oak flooring is a beautiful, classic option that will last for decades and add value to your home.

Benefits to Oak Hardwood Floors

Why should you consider oak flooring for your home? As San Jose Hardwood Floors explains, wood flooring is known for several benefits:

  • Adding value. Wood enhances the décor of any room and provides timeless, classic beauty that becomes more valuable over time. In fact, in a national survey of real estate agents, 90% said that houses with wood floors sell faster and for higher prices than houses without hardwood. (more…)

Kitchen Remodeling: Electrolux Double Ovens

Electrolux Double OvenA few weeks ago we highlighted the new appliances in our Los Gatos kitchen remodeling project, including the client’s new Electrolux double oven. This isn’t your standard double oven, though, which is why we wanted to go into a little bit more detail. But first, we thought it would be good to go over a few tips for selecting appliances.

How to Choose New Appliances

A kitchen remodeling project is a natural time to think about the appliances you have. From ovens and stoves to refrigerators and garbage disposals, Chef Masterclasses recommends asking yourself a few questions first:

  1. What appliances do you have now?
  2. What do you like and dislike about them?
  3. What are your space restrictions?
  4. What is your budget?
  5. If cost wasn’t an issue, what would you like to get? (more…)

Kitchen Remodeling: Creating Storage Space with a Kitchen Bench

Kitchen Bench w/ Storage Underneath

Kitchen Bench w/ Storage Underneath

A kitchen remodeling project is a fantastic time to create more storage space in what can be a somewhat small room. Although expanding the area is sometimes an option, more frequently you are stuck with the square footage you have. So where can you find a little room to hide a few items? As in our Saratoga kitchen design, creating kitchen bench storage by adding built-in seating where you intend to put the table can be a great option.

Creating Kitchen Bench Storage

Creating storage space during a kitchen remodeling project is a natural time to make the change. Although you can certainly buy a kitchen bench, allowing your contractor to create one that is built in and fits with the overall kitchen design will increase value to your home in addition to fitting seamlessly into the space. Kitchen Pantry Remodeling Tips

Decorative Pantry DoorThe kitchen pantry is known for practicality. Pantries are where you stash non-perishable food, from flour and sugar to cans and munchies. But functionality isn’t the only consideration to make when remodeling the kitchen pantry in your home. Take a cue from our Los Gatos kitchen remodeling project and go for style in addition to practicality.

Creating Custom Pantries

How did our Los Gatos clients add their sense of style to their new kitchen pantry? One big change they made is a decorative door. Instead of using a typical wood door like so many other pantries, they picked out a giant grain design on an opaque window. The glass on the door helps the room feel more open and the design fits naturally with one thing kitchens are known for – food. Feel free to check out Simpson and Trustile Doors for more examples of possible decorative doors for your kitchen pantry. (more…)

Updating the appliances in your kitchen is a great way to make the room more functional in addition to increasing value of the home as a whole. We’ve highlighted Sub-Zero refrigerators and Wolf cooktops before, but what else does CAGE Design Build recommend? From dishwashers and cooktops to hoods and ovens, here are a few appliances we recently added to our Los Gatos kitchen remodel.

Their custom panel designs can even be created to match your kitchen cabinets so the appliance blends into the surrounding cabinetry. (more…)

Kitchen Design: More Saratoga Updates!

Saratoga Kitchen DesignA couple of weeks ago we shared that phase 2 of our Saratoga remodeling project is complete. Although we highlighted a couple of things we did, we didn’t have time to share much about the kitchen design.

Saratoga Kitchen Design

As with many of our kitchen design projects, the Saratoga project included updating the kitchen cabinets, granite countertops, paint colors, faucets and much, much more. Here are a few specifics from the Saratoga kitchen design:

  • Granite Countertops. For this project, the homeowners selected honed granite countertops because of the soft, natural appearance. They’re also very durable, a great way to add value to your home and the matte finish ended up looking fantastic with the kitchen cabinets. (more…)

Tile Backsplash

Tile Backsplash

The kitchen backsplash is an easy way to add some personal style into your home along with a functional purpose. You can pick something simple but elegant (as in our Los Gatos project, photo to the right) or a design that’s more ornate and vibrant. How do you pick the backsplash that’s right for your overall kitchen design?

Kitchen Backsplash Trends

It fits into almost any kitchen design well, and the color white can make the room classic and timeless for decades.
