Redesign Element: When & How to Select Your Paint
May 3, 2011
Another important home redesign element is paint color and type. When is the best time to paint during a remodel? How should you decide on the perfect color and type?
At CAGE Design Build, we like to wait until all tile, cabinetry, etc. is installed before selecting the perfect color because it’s very common for the lighting to change drastically in a newly remodeled space. We generally provide the homeowner with large color swatches so they can move them throughout the space at various times of day so it is easier to visualize the overall look when selecting the final color.
In terms of actual colors, we’ve seen a recent trend towards gray tones. This color is a great base hue for your home as it is so versatile; you can easily change the color scheme simply by switching out furnishings, embellishments and accessories. See the pictures above and below to see examples of rooms that feature walls with gray paint.
We typically prefer Benjamin Moore paint at CAGE Design Build. Our painters have found its coverage is much better than other brands, and as green builders, we appreciate the variety of eco-friendly options available. Benjamin Moore has two lines of environmentally friendly paints:
- Natura is an interior waterborne paint with virtually no odor and zero volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Third-party testing even shows that Natura paint emits lower total volatile compounds than any other national zero VOC product.
- Aura Interior Paint is a low VOC, low odor paint that’s available in over 3,300 brilliant hues.
