Home Lighting: 3 Ways to Make It Brighter

A bright room can help a home feel open and alive. One change a lot of homeowners want to make during their remodel is the addition of more light throughout their house. Depending on the space available, there are a few practical ways we like to recommend:

  1. Skylights – As we’ve mentioned before, skylights can add a sophisticated architectural element to a room. Benefits include significantly reduced energy costs (no need for electricity during the day), natural and high-quality light inside your home, a tax credit through 2016, visibility of the night sky without venturing outside and additional ventilation.

  2. Solatube Daylighting System – Perfect for tight areas in which traditional skylights aren’t practical, this eco-friendly, maintenance-free solar tube captures light through a dome on the roof and channels it into the home through an internal reflective system. Benefits include exceptional lighting, cost-effective product and installation costs, no need for structural reframing, drywalling or painting, versatility in that it fits all roof types, significantly reduced energy costs (no need for electricity during the day) and more.

  3. LED Can Lights – We’ve talked about the benefits to LED lighting before: They lasts longer than incandescent bulbs and compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), are free from toxic materials like mercury, can deliver the same amount of light using just 10-15% of the power as conventional technologies and has a higher color rendering. The main differences between LED lights and LED can lights? Size and style. Can lights are perfect for tight spaces as well as they save valuable floor and wall space (they can be installed directly in the ceiling).
